Elopement vs. Traditional Wedding Photography in NYC

I recently realized the clear difference between an elopement and a traditional wedding. In an elopement, couples are focused on themselves; they aren’t concerned with restaurants or accommodating a large number of guests. They are immersed in the simplicity of the day, centered on their own experience and the basic logistics.

Conversely, planning a traditional wedding involves meticulous attention to numerous details, regardless of whether it's 20, 10, or even 220 guests. It's about managing logistics from guests' arrival times to the sequence of events—when and where the ceremony will be held, the itinerary for any walks or excursions, and what happens afterwards. If there is a ceremony, considerations must be made for whether guests will be seated or standing. After the ceremony, there’s the transition to photo sessions with family and how guests will move from places like Central Park to the reception venue. The distance to the restaurant, the venue’s capacity—all these factors create an endless stream of details to consider. In contrast, an elopement focuses on the simplicity of the couple's needs and straightforward logistics.

Additionally, when choosing photography and videography for a traditional wedding, people want to be certain that the photographer is local, familiar with the venue, and that their style matches the setting and lighting conditions—there are countless details to discuss concerning photo and video services. However, for couples opting for an elopement, they primarily need to see a portfolio that reflects the type of results they can expect, ensuring they feel comfortable and confident with the final product.
